It was hard to keep this list relatively short, but I managed to make a list of my top 5 favorite characters, in no particular order. This list somehow ended up only being characters from fantasy/dystopian books…I swear I read contemporary too.

Feyre and Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas (Artwork by Charlie Bowater)
Feyre and Rhysand will always be my all-time favorite characters from my all-time favorite series. Their character development is amazing and I loved the way they helped each other overcome their trauma. Individually, they were such strong and complicated characters.

Sirius Black from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (Artwork by Tschissl on Favim)
I loved Sirius ever since Prisoner of Azkaban and his relationship with Harry was one of my favorite storylines of the entire series. His death was heartbreaking, especially when I had to watch Harry’s reaction in the movie. Even though he wasn’t too nice when he was younger, he was an amazing father figure to Harry.

Matthias Helvar from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Matthias is my favorite character from Six of Crows and I believe that Nina and Matthias are the superior couple (yes, I know, very controversial). His death made me sob and it still hurts when I think about it. He changed so much for Nina and tried to open the eyes of other Grisha Hunters. My opinion of him was solidified from the way he treated Nina when she was trying to get off Parem.

Maxon Schraeve The Selection by Kiera Cass
I read The Selection a year ago and I am still in love with Maxon Schraeve. He always protected America and did everything he could to make her happy. If I could bring any fictional character to life it would be him. I love him so much that I annotated all of my favorite moments of him (which was most of the series).

Great insight! I don’t know most of these characters but they all have a common theme-protecting people. Interesting. Do a follow up with some of your others!
