Books to Read During Quarantine

Since I, along with everyone else, am stuck at home, I have read more than I ever had before. Last month, I read a total of 19 books. I thought that I would recommend books that I believe are great to escape to. Most of these will be fantasy/dystopian/science fiction because they are the books I go to when I want to escape to somewhere else, since it is a different world.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Throne of Glass is about an infamous assassin, Celeana Sardothein, who competes to become the King’s Champion. It was the first book that came to mind for a series to escape to. It will occupy a long time since it is an 8 book series, but it also has an amazing world. The characters are great and the plots and subplots will keep you engaged and wanting more.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Caraval is about a girl, Scarlett Dragna, who competes in a magical game, with the help of a sailor, to find her sister. The setting is very whimsical and you will very easily fall into this game and the mystery around it. Caraval is the first book in a trilogy that will take up some time and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Stalking Jack the Ripper goes back to the 1800s and revisits the Jack the Ripper case. It is told from the perspective of Audrey Rose Wadsworth, a 17 year old studying forensic medicine underneath her uncle. It is a great mystery with a strong, female lead and plot twists to keep you invested in the story. There are 4 books in the series, plus an e-novella that will keep you busy.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The Little Prince is about a little boy who leaves his planet to visit the world and has interesting encounters with many different adults. It may be a children’s book, but has themes that are universal to all. Despite its smaller length, the adventure of the little boy will transport you to entirely new planets.

Finally, if you need somewhere to escape to, I recommend re-reading a favorite book. It is obviously a favorite for a reason, so revisit a world that you love and will make you happy!
