Book Quotes That I Love

“You don’t know what goes on in anyone’s life but your own. And when you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re not messing with just that part. Unfortunately, you can’t be that precise and selective. When you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re messing with their entire life. Everything. . . affects everything.” -Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why

Thirteen Reasons Why never left much of an impact on me as it always felt like a bizarre concept; however, this quote is the one thing that resonated with me. It is always the quote that comes to mind when I think of my favorite quotes of all time.

“Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.” -Rainbow Rowell, Eleanor and Park

Rainbow Rowell writes some of the most relatable characters and shows the lives that teenagers actually live. Eleanor is one of my favorite characters from a contemporary book and this quote that Park said about her made me fall in love with him too.

I am updating this on August 19, 2020. I have been looking into Rainbow Rowell and the controversy around this book. I didn’t just want to delete this and pretend it never happened. Instead, I wanted to recognize the racism in this book and state that I no longer support this book or the author.

“He thinks he’ll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.” -Sarah J Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Thorns and Roses is one of my all-time favorite books and I will read anything written by Sarah J Maas (except the DC book she wrote). I loved this quote from the moment I read it and I want a bunch of merch with this quote on it.

“The Lion will roar no longer, his life the asking price for defending his cub” -Sarah J Maas, Kingdom of Ash

A very unpopular opinion that I have is that this line made me much more upset than the death of the Thirteen. Both of them made me sad, but Gavriel dying to protect Aedion made me cry. This quote hurt so much and continues to hurt me every time I read it.

“Everyone’s got something. Some people are just better actors than others.” -Tamara Ireland Stone, Every Last Word

Every Last Word was the first book I ever fell in love with and I still think that it is a beautifully written story. I loved this quote so much that when I first read it, I highlighted it and put a tab on the page so I could always find it.
